The 65th Anniversary of the Niagara Supper Club will be celebrated at our April 21st dinner dance. This is the last dinner dance of our season and is the one dance that is held at a different venue. The dance will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Church’s Parish Hall in Niagara On The Lake (NOTL). Here is more information excerpted from a recent press release about the event.
……………………………………………………..
The Niagara Supper Club is celebrating its 65th year as the place to go for dinner, dancing and socializing at St. Vincent de Paul Parish Hall, 222 Davy St., NOTL, on April 21st beginning at 6 p.m. If an evening of dancing to great music, enjoying good food and being with friends, old and new, suits your needs then the Niagara Supper Club is the place to be.
The Club was founded in 1947 by NOTL residents Mugs Dorland and Marjory Laughton and was incorporated in 1988. Membership is capped at 75 couples (150 people) and is operated by a 14 member (7 couples) Board of Directors elected annually, with couples jointly holding a position for 2 year terms. Until 1975 membership was limited to NOTL residents but now includes members from as far away as Burlington, Ontario and Lewiston, New York.
Back in the 1960’s, the evenings began at 9 p.m. with dancing to live bands. ‘Supper’ consisted of a cold buffet made by the members and was served at midnight. The annual membership fee in the 60’s was $20.00 a couple and evening charges at $2.50 a couple and $5.00 for guests.
Over the years the format changed to a catered dinner before the dance provided by quality local caterers followed by dancing to music from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s provided by our favourite local bands. Our current annual membership fee is $100 per couple and dinner at $40 per person for buffets and $43 for formal events. Guests pay a few dollars more.
We hold seven 7 dances each season, usually on the 3rd Saturday of each month, from October to April. Two dances are formal – the Christmas Ball and the Presidents Ball. Six dances are held at the beautiful Old Courthouse in Niagara-On-The-Lake. To make way for the Shaw Festival, we move to another location for the April event.
Our membership is strong and includes working professionals and retirees and is couples oriented. We welcome guests to come and check us out. As the club is a non-profit volunteer organization it is only as good as its members who take turns at decorating the hall each month. The teams determine the theme for the month when it isn’t obvious such as St. Patrick’s Day.
Again, on the occasion of our 65th anniversary we will be celebrating in style at St. Vincent de Paul Parish Hall, 222 Davy Street, Niagara-on-the-Lake at our final dance of the season in April 21st.
